Voice commands
The preacher can tell FlowCast to show the next verse, go back, or change the Bible version.
The commands
While FlowCast listens, it identifies these commands in the transcript:
- “Next verse” and “previous verse” show the verse after or before the live verse. This also occurs when a different passage is in the preview. “Next.” or “Previous.” alone also operates.
- “Go back” shows the previous verse when it is a sentence of its own, such as “Go back.” or “Okay, go back one verse.” In “let us go back to Genesis”, it is not a command.
- “Change the version to King James”, “switch to NIV”, or “change it to the Amplified” changes the Bible version. The name of a version alone, such as “the King James says”, also changes the version.
With no verse live, “next verse” and “previous verse” step from the selected verse, as the arrow keys of the Scriptures panel do. With Auto go live on, the verse goes live.
Change the version
When Auto go live is on, a change of version operates on the live verses. The screen and the preview then show these verses in the new version. If no verses are live, the change operates on the verses in the preview.
When Auto go live is off, a change of version operates on the verses in the preview. The live verses do not change.
If no verses are live or in the preview, the Scriptures panel changes to the new version, as it does when you select a version in the version menu.
Names of the versions
FlowCast knows each version by its abbreviation, such as “NIV”, and by the start of its title, such as “King James” or “New International”. After “change” or “switch”, the name changes the version.
The name of a version also changes the version without “change” or “switch”. Some examples are “the King James says”, “in the NIV it says”, and “read it from the Amplified Bible”. A name alone counts if “version”, “translation”, or “Bible” comes after it. An abbreviation, or a title of two or more words, also counts alone. Everyday words that are also in titles do not change the version. Thus, “I bring you good news” and “his voice was amplified” are not commands.
Words that FlowCast accepts
The speech recognition sometimes writes these commands with incorrect words. FlowCast also accepts these incorrect words:
- “Verse” written as “version”, “versus”, or a short word that ends with an “s” sound, such as “best”, “first”, or “Bruce”. Such a word counts only at the end of a sentence. Thus, “next best.” is a command, but “the next best thing is prayer” is not.
- “Go back” written as “zoom back”, “do back”, or “go bad”.
- “Switch” written as “Swiss”, and “NIV” written as “Neve” or “NID”.
- “Amplified” written as “amplifier” or “amplify”.
“NIV” said as three letters is the command that the speech recognition hears least well. If “switch to NIV” does not operate, say “switch to the New International”.
